School-Based Services
School-Based Mental Health
AFS School-Based Division provides no-cost mental health services at all 15 schools within the Alameda Unified School District. Our clinical services are provided by California Board Registered mental health professionals and MFT and MSW trainees. We provide counseling with a focus on assessment, stabilization, and skill building. Services take place on campus and during school hours in efforts to minimize barriers to access.
For more information about our School-Based Services, please email schoolbasedinfo@alamedafs.org.
School-Based Health Centers
In addition to the mental health services we provide at AUSD schools, our school-based health centers, located at Encinal, Alameda, and Island High Schools, incorporate limited medical care provided by Native American Health Services. As always, services are no-cost, confidential, and offered during school hours.
Students can access medical and mental health supports by contacting the locations below:

Youth Leadership Development
High school students interested in learning about promoting health and wellness can participate in our Youth Advisory Board (YAB) internship program. YAB provides opportunities for AUSD students to identify and address topics most relevant to them such as mental and sexual health, cultivating safe relationships, and body image.
Internship Opportunities
Through an established partnership with Alameda Unified School District, AFS oversees a Master’s Level internship program where trainees provide no-cost mental health support to students at one of Alameda’s 15 public school sites.
Trainees develop in-depth knowledge about working within a school system, gain clinical experience providing individual and group therapy services to youth, and, as an integrated member of the school community, may also provide collateral and case management services for family and school staff to support student success.
How To Apply
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with a yearly submission deadline of April 15th.
