Alameda Family Services is a progressive, non-profit agency that provides clinically sophisticated, comprehensive mental health and early childhood educational services to individuals and families in the City and County of Alameda through several programs: Early Head Start, Head Start, Family Support Services, School Based Services, and Behavioral Health Care Services. SCHOOL BASED SERVICES

Alameda Family Services’ School Based Services Program provides a multitude of health and wellness services to youth on school campuses in the Alameda Unified School District. Services include individual and group counseling, case management, family engagement, as well as health education, and youth development.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing individual and group psychotherapy, as well as completing all documentation and data entry associated with services. There are currently 2 open positions. One position supports both a High School and Elementary school, providing all services onsite from 8am-2pm. In the second position, the therapist will travel to schools within the City of Alameda to provide school-based services from 10am-3pm. In the early evening 3pm-6pm, the therapist will provide services to youth and their families in-person out of AFS main office or via telehealth. 

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Provide a full range of culturally sensitive, strength-based behavioral health services to students.
  2. Complete accurate and timely documentation of services and maintain all records in compliance with legal and professional laws. 
  3. Participate in follow-up behavioral health coordination meetings to ensure appropriate referrals and service implementation. 
  4. Collaborate with school site administration and faculty, as well as School-Based Health Center staff, if applicable.
  5. Provide referrals and resources to students, families, and school community.
  6. Coordinate service delivery with other service providers. 
  7. Conduct outreach and provide consultation about behavioral health services offered on-campus and within the community through presentations and workshops. 
  8. Attend and participate in a variety of staff and program related meetings, as well as professional development trainings. 
  9. Attend and participate in weekly individual and group clinical supervision.
  10. Other duties as assigned by Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Master’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work (Board Registration required).
  2. Minimum 1 year experience providing behavioral health services
  3. Experience providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive individual and group behavioral health services.
  4. Experience working with ethnically and socio-economically diverse youth and families.
  5. Embraces a strength-based approach to clients, their families, and systems.
  6. Knowledge of school related systems such as PBIS, COST, and IEPs.
  7. Knowledge of unique stressors and needs impacting children, youth, and adolescents.
  8. Knowledge of laws and regulations impacting systems serving minors.
  9. Ability to effectively facilitate behavioral health groups.
  10. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
  11. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  12. Skills in effective oral and written communication.
  13. Multi-language capacity desired.

PHYSICAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

  1. Must be able to sit for at least 85% of the time and stand for 15%.
  2. Must be able to lift 25 pounds (books, files, etc.).
  3. Must possess valid California driver’s license & have reliable transportation to travel between school sites.
  4. Home and community visits as necessary to connect with youth’s family.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. The School Based Services program requires a background check and clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) background prior to employment.
  2. A current TB Test Results is required prior to employment.
